For the second consecutive day, a senior member of the Conservative Party visited Milton Keynes. On 26 May 2009, Party Leader - David Cameron made a major policy announcement at the Open University’s Walton Hall campus focusing on the party’s plans for redistributing power back to local communities. He was followed on Wednesday 27th by Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne who after visiting the Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce also visited the Capital Enterprise Centres’ (CEC) Milton Keynes workspaces. For the Shadow Chancellor, this was a chance to take a look at the economy from the point of view of smaller businesses engaged day-to-day in challenging markets. Mr Osborne stressed the importance of small and medium-sized companies and their key role in the economy. CEC specialises in developing and managing business centres for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Among the businesses visited at the Milton Keynes Business Centre were Medicotech, a supplier of advanced therapy medical equipment and LogBuy, a business that specialises in sourcing employee benefits for companies. |

Commenting on the
visit by Mr. Osborne, Key Account Manager for LogBuy, Mr. Robert Parr
said: “As
a local company in the district of Milton Keynes, it was a pleasure to
welcome George Osborne to the offices of LogBuy this week to discuss the
Employee Benefits services we provide to both local and national
companies. Being a local business and employer in Milton Keynes, we were
encouraged by Mr. Osborne’s visit to promote and highlight the success
small businesses like LogBuy are having despite the current economic
climate.” CEC's Operations Director David Clapham said that the visit had been much appreciated and that traders had been impressed by the effort made to hear their views. He said: “Having the chance to exchange views was very welcome. There’s a great deal happening in Milton Keynes and our traders were able to give the Shadow Chancellor the good news that businesses here have great potential and are determined to succeed.” |

Mr. Osborne reaffirmed the party’s commitment to businesses saying “The Conservative Party will do all it can to support and encourage enterprising companies during these difficult times by getting credit moving. It was tremendous to see the achievements of the businesses here which show the vital contribution that smaller companies are going to make to our recovery from recession.” The Shadow Chancellor was accompanied on his visit to Milton Keynes by Mark Lancaster (MP, North East MK), James Elles (MEP for Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire) and Iain Stewart (Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Milton Keynes South). |
